DESCRIPTION
the artwork is a tightly segmented line of metal, tightly clutched together like some futuristic armour casing a valuable thread or at least, i assume that’s what it cases. it’s impossible to tell without peeling back the shell. it concludes in a heart shaped clasp and is interspersed with miniature screw threads at four points evenly spaced along the work. the artwork, laid flat, is 15-20cm long, 3-4mm wide. clasped around my wrist it hugs my wrist gently with space for up to two slender fingers to work underneath.
on the base frame sit 6 pendant charms, each with their own style and colour. one is spider-man, another snowflakes, a third seashells. there were once two seashell pieces, but now we’re cut back to just one. the other is lost on a train somewhere.
INSCRIPTION
the piece is perpetually inscribed. ‘pandora’ is written on every single separable piece, or at least their logo is shown, whether in small print or large. additionally each item is given the inscription ‘s925’ and the letters ‘a’, ‘l’, ‘e’, one after another, is it a word? what does it mean? why? i have no idea.
additionally one of the charms reads ‘i fall in love with you every day’ – i bought the pendant because it was pretty, but now it seems disingenuous, narcissistic even, i purchased this sentiment for myself.
another pendant is inscribed ‘spiderman’ and in fine print ‘friendly neighbourhood’ i didn’t know the fine print was there on purchase, but it didn’t surprise me afterwards when i discovered this little easter egg.
MATERIAL
metal engraved with enamel overlays.
stone insets
gem highlights
CONDITION
the condition is good but slightly worn. there is sediment buildup from years in contact with my skin. crevaces have collected dust while the smooth surfaces are smooth and shiny from constant rubbing. motion rings of darker material have built up on the individual charms.
there is a space where a spacer should sit. but alas, it is lost forever so it sits there no more.
